America 250 NC Freedom Fellows

A Professional Learning Experience for K-12 Educators

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026, we’re invited to reflect on our shared history, honor the diverse voices that have shaped it, and explore the responsibilities that democracy asks of each of us.

In support of this historic milestone, the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, in partnership with Carolina K-12, is excited to launch the second cohort of the America 250 NC Freedom Fellows. This unique professional opportunity is designed for K-12 educators who want to dive into North Carolina’s complex and compelling past—and the many ways its people have pursued and defined the ideal of freedom.

Participants will gain rich historical knowledge, classroom-ready resources, and the chance to connect with fellow educators who are passionate about teaching the past to shape a more informed future.

The America 250 NC Freedom Fellows program is sponsored by the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources in partnership with Carolina K-12.
