Signature Events

North Carolina is proud to join the nation in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with a series of signature events that honor our state’s pivotal role in shaping the American story. From historic reenactments to cultural festivals, these events will inspire, educate, and unite communities across the state.

First In Freedom Festival

The First in Freedom Festival is a weeklong statewide celebration (Feb. 21–28, 2026) honoring North Carolina’s role in America’s fight for independence through reenactments, cultural exhibits, and educational programs centered at Moores Creek National Battlefield.

Halifax Resolves Day

Join us as North Carolina proudly kicks off America’s 250th anniversary with “Halifax Resolves Days: Prelude to Revolution” at the historic Halifax State Historic Site. This three-day commemoration includes Halifax Resolves Day and an immersive two-day living history experience.

The State Capitol is hosting free musical performances and hands-on activities for children to celebrate July 4.

Independence Day Event, July 4

The gathering at the N.C. State Capitol will celebrate Independence Day and America’s Semiquincentennial. The free, fun-filled family event will feature musical performances, historic interpreters, hand-on activities and exhibits, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and a naturalization ceremony, which is held each year at the Capitol. More information on this event will be announced soon.
