Tinisha Shaw

Tinisha Shaw is a veteran educator who has been with Guilford County Schools for 18 years as a 9-12 social studies teacher, curriculum and instruction coach, and student access and opportunity coordinator. Tinisha has a deep and abiding love for all things Southern, specifically Black Southern heritage and culture. Born and raised in southeastern NC and the Gullah-Geechee Cultural Corridor, this is evident in her love of sweet potatoes (yams), boiled peanuts, and sweetgrass. She also has a deep love for books, art, and all forms of media that she cultivated as the granddaughter of a librarian.

For Tinisha, teaching and learning involve the celebration, honoring, and sharing of lived experiences and humanity. As an America 250 NC Fellow ,she is excited to explore, learn, and share in over 250 years of NC and US history and culture.
