"While there have never been more than 1300 people living in Gaston, NC, major players of the revolutionary era hail from my hometown. At "my cousins house" there lies Mount Gallant Plantation, less than 2 miles walking distance from my doorstep. At this plantation was the home, of currently my family, but historically the Jones family. This includes Alan Jones, Willie Jones and Sarah Jones Davie. Alan Jones was on the 4th Providential Congress to create the Halifax Resolves which led to the first act of independence in all of the USA. In addition, Sarah's husband, William R. Davie represented our community in the NC Congress and was one of the deciders in NC joining the union and creating UNC Chapel Hill. It's nice to tell people that American Freedom and Education was the brainchild and lived at my cousin's house. How many people have cousins who did something at their house so great?! Although we are small town, in my estimate, we are the smartest and greatest in all the nation."
