Bringing History to Life — Across State Lines!
In the 1700s, the Waxhaws region stretched across both Carolinas, encompassing what is now Union County, NC, and Lancaster County, SC. During the American Revolution, this area was a major battleground — with over 200 battles and skirmishes fought in the Carolinas, especially from 1780–1781 when the British shifted their focus south.
Last year, history was made when the Museum of the Waxhaws hosted Union County’s first-ever Revolutionary War reenactment during the Battle of the Waxhaws Reenactment Weekend.
This year, Lancaster County, SC is honoring that legacy by holding its very first American Revolution battle reenactment — right on the land where the original battle took place 250 years ago.
Now in its second year, the Battle of the Waxhaws American Revolution Reenactment Weekend brings the true spirit of the Waxhaw settlement to life. We’re coming together across county and state lines to deliver a weekend of history like never before — honoring our shared past with pride, passion, and purpose.
We’re proud to see these two counties not only preserving history — but making it all over again.
For the North Carolina side of the event weekend, the encampment will be located at the Museum of the Waxhaws with over 200 reenactors and living historians. The North Carolina event will take place on the museum grounds Saturday, June 7th 10-5PM and Sunday, June 8th 10-3PM.
